First time

One thing I remember about pain was thinking it's exquisite. Where did that expression come from? How can pain be exquisite? I was very little (2nd grade) when I contracted nephritis. My sister was 9 years older so my family was in DC looking at colleges. The story goes that I passed out on the Capital steps, had to be rushed home where I was diagnosed with childhood Nephritis. An ear infection had passed to my Kidneys. I thought when I was older and supposedly cured that it had been cool because Pat Boone was the spokesperson for Nephritis. I never went to second grade (last month in May I actually returned to the class room) where Mrs. P was my teacher. Someone in my class got the idea to send me a card saying, "don't be a stubborn Jackass" get well soon.  Mrs. P let all the kids follow suit. I was 7 years old. I received cards from everyone in the class. They all read the same. What kind of teacher is that? When I finally returned to class Mrs. P asked us to do a drawing and make up a story to go with it. I had been away so long, I was shy. My beautiful barn had a cloudy sky with one patch of blue shining through. The story wasn't complete. Mrs. P was at her desk so I approached. The teacher said, "You are lazy because you left the sky uncolored and just filled in a patch of blue! I tried to explain in my 2nd grade voice, "that's artistic license".  "How are you going to end the story"she demanded. "They lived happily ever after, or something like that" I blubbered out. That's the way she wrote it  On parents' night my story hung on the wall with it's blue patch and "or something like that" for all to see. What a bitch!
